Friday – Basketball, orienteering and team challenges
Sinéad Ryan was back in with her assistants today to take 3rd to 6th class for taster sessions.
Mr Murray’s and Ms O’ Neill’s classes tried out the orienteering course and passes with flying colours!
Our three infants classes were paired with our 1st and 2nd classes for some team challenges such as sack races, three legged races and egg and spoon races. The infants learned loads from each and every one of the partners in 1st and 2nd class.
Thursday – Sports Day!!!
Many student’s favourite day of the year. Students from 1st to 5th class were first bused to the local St Laurence’s GAA complex where students took part in tag rugby, basketball and hurling/camogie stations. Ms Bradley’s 5th class also organised dodgeball, relay races, 3-legged race, team games and tag games for all students!
A massive thank you to all volunteers at the GAA complex. We are very grateful to have so many parents and past pupils there on the day happy to help out!
Students then returned to our school where many fun inflatable activities were set up on the green and astro turf pitches for all students from junior infants to 6th class.
And of course the Sports Day favourite arrived on cue again this year to get our hearts pumping for all sorts of different reasons!!!
Dave’s Jungle included snakes, chameleons, tortoises, snap turtles, tarantulas and more. Some hearts got more of a workout than others!!!
Wednesday – Yoga, football, tag rugby, 6th class adventure
Local yoga instructor, Pamela Sage, volunteered to take all classes from 2nd to 5th class to warm up their minds and their bodies today. This was a great success and a great change of pace for our students.
Our regular football coaches dropped in as usual to coach all classes on the basic football skills. Thanks as always to John Joe, Vincent and Mr Finnegan.
Our 6th class tour organised their outdoor and adventure, overnight school tour to conincide with our Active School Week this year. The tour involved many outdoor team challenges to push our 6th class outside their comfort zone.
Joe Carbury, our regular autumn tag-rugby coach from Athy Rugby Club, dropped in to give afternoon coaching sessions to 4th and 5th class also.
Tuesday – Basketball & Orienteering
Sinéad Ryan of the local Larrie Birds Basketball Club very kindly volunteered to coach all our junior classes today (junior infants to 2nd class). A big thank you to her assistant coaches also.
Senior classes took on the first ever orienteering challenge on our new school campus. It wasn’t easy but with a little teamwork and no little stamina they overcame it. Well done to all!
Monday – Badminton & Tug of War
To kickoff our 2017 Active School Week Oscar Malone of the local St Laurence’s Badminton Club volunteered to provide coaching session to all six of our senior classes (3rd to 6th class). Thanks Oscar!
Classes also took part in tug of war on the astro turf pitch and we even found time for some of the strongest teachers to take on the students. 1st to 6th class were easily defeated but junior and senior infants were way too strong for the teachers!
ASW Suggestion Box
The ASW suggestion box is overflowing with creativity and ideas of fun activities to be included.
